The Role

Acre is delighted to be supporting the Royal Household as it seeks to hire a Sustainability and Reporting Manager to join its sustainability team. The Royal Household recognises that the world is in an existential climate and biodiversity crisis and needs to both act itself and show leadership to others. It occupies a number of historic built environments and, through The Royal Private Estates, manages extensive natural capital assets.

These represent suitable settings for high levels of ambition with regard to carbon reduction, the natural environment and broader activity on recycling, water management and waste.

Within The Royal Household, the newly formed Sustainability team provides a strategic lead to the wider organisation on all matters relating to environmental sustainability, ensuring it is built into all daily activities across all teams and all Royal sites at an operational and strategic level.

Key Responsibilities

To coordinate and ensure the effective collection, management and reporting of key non-financial data (primarily Greenhouse Gas emissions) to support the achievement of environmental sustainability goals and activities. The focus is currently on the Household's Environmental targets and initiatives; however, the role is likely to expand to other ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) based initiatives, which should be viewed concurrently. Internally, you will have contact with staff at all levels across all the Royal residences. Externally, you will build appropriate partnerships designed to understand best practice and further the work of The Royal Household.

Data Collection

  • Responsible for designing and implementing processes to collect relevant environmental sustainability data from various sources, primarily Greenhouse Gas emissions data

Data Management

  • Critically examine existing data collection processes and implement improvements to strengthen the collation and accuracy of environmental sustainability data.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Work in collaboration with the Head of Sustainability to define all KPIs and to ensure business areas are clear on definitions and requirements in order to drive consistency across operations.

  • Produce meaningful and accurate data reporting and analysis to improve internal monitoring and progress against key Household initiatives.

Compliance

  • Ensuring compliance with sustainability and ESG disclosure requirements, such as those mandated by regulatory bodies or industry-specific frameworks, including sustainability reporting requirements set out in the Government Financial Reporting Manual (FReM) and associated guidance

  • Maintain conjunction with Finance Teams, to be responsible for ensuring all sustainability reporting is compliant and satisfies audit requirements and provide supporting documentation as required

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Acts as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding environmental sustainability data-related matters including data inquiries, providing necessary audit documentation, and ensuring transparency in sustainability data reporting.

  • Work with all stakeholders centrally and across business areas to educate, improve awareness and promote continuous improvement in data collection and analysis process and controls

Continuous Improvement

  • As sustainability standards and reporting practices evolve, the post-holder continues to monitor emerging trends, best practices, and technological advancements related to sustainability data management, proposing and implementing enhancements to data collection, analysis, and reporting processes.

  • Support the moving of sustainability data towards alignment to best practice standards such as Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, GHG Protocol, SBTi, TCFD, TNFD, Climate Transition Plans and assurance on key ESG metrics.

Experience Sought

  • A strong passion for, and understanding of, sustainability issues, with specifically demonstrated experience in GHG emissions reporting/PCAF/GHG Protocol, SBTi requirements, decarbonisation target setting/ net zero strategy setting

  • Data analysis and visualisation skills, comfortable working with large sets of data

  • High level of competence and comfortability in the use of reporting tools such as PowerBi

  • Strategic thinking with the ability to analyse and simplify complex data and make connections to organisational objectives.

  • Ability to present complex information in an engaging and accessible way.

  • Strong networking and influencing skills to build relationships and influence stakeholders in the organisation

  • Understanding of existing and emerging broader ESG reporting protocols
